Cancer Research and Awareness

Why Cancer Research and Awareness?

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in the USA. Over 1.4 million cases are estimated to be diagnosed in the U.S. in 2006, and over 560,000 people will die of cancer in the U.S. in 2006. Sachin and his friends raised funds for cancer research and awareness last year by getting a team together to walk for the Revlon Walk for Breast Cancer. Our foundation will continue that legacy.

2006 Breast Cancer Walk- Oct 21, 2006 Golden Gate Park, San Francisco

Oct 22, 2006 Balboa Park, San Diego

On a sunny and warm October Saturday, approximately 70 adults and college students gathered in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park to walk for American Cancer Society's "Making Strides For Breast Cancer" on behalf of Sachin Shah CARES Foundation. Everyone was in great spirits and covered the 5-mile route including a portion along the Pacific Ocean near the Ocean Beach in about 2 hours. Nice ocean breeze and sun rays sneaking in between the tree branches (as seen in some pictures) felt like Sachin was looking over us as a guardian angle and giving everyone the needed energy and stamina to finish the 5-mile walk.

On Sunday, Oct 22nd, about 30 of Sachin's friends from UCLA and UCSD walked the 5-mile route in San Diego's Balboa Park. It was an amazing nice morning walk.

When we started organizing this 2 events in late July, we started with a goal of 50 participants in SF and about 25 in San Diego and $1,000. As we closed in on the Oct 21st date the RSVPs had reached over 70 in SF and 30 in SD and the contributions kept coming, reaching over $2,100 in SF and $1,700 in SD on the day of 21st.   Most of these donations ($3800 total) were made online and went directly to American Cancer Society.

On behalf of SSCF, we want to thank everyone who participated, everyone who donated generously and everyone who wished us success. The gods above blessed us with rays of sun-shine, ocean breeze and a will to complete our quest successfully!!!!
