Why Athletics?

Sachin’s passion for basketball defied all odds. Starting on his driveway at age 5 to the Muir Courts at UCSD, everyone knew his true love was basketball. Athletics is a great way for youth to learn about hard-work, perseverance, discipline, motivation, physical fitness and teamwork. The foundation will promote athletics amongst the young to encourage dedication, hard-work, excellence and team-work.

Basketball Tournament - UC San Diego Muir Courts May 19, 2007

Beta Chi Theta and Sangam at University of California-San Diego sponsored a Basketball Tournament in Sachin’s honor at his favorite Muir courts on May 20th. 14 teams competed on 3 full-courts starting at 11am on a gorgeous day. A DJ played exciting music to get the players in the right mood and everyone was excited. All players said they had a great time. Pizza and soda were donated by a local restaurant and available for lunch. There was also a raffle to raise funds.  At the break, Satish and Lilam Shah spoke about the “Sachin Shah SAFE DRIVER Pledge Program” and asked the players to pledge. More than 60 people pledged to become “Safe Drivers”.  After a vigorous competition, two teams were in finals. See the pictures below.
